I am a Full Professor of Economics Education at the University of Bristol (United Kingdom) and a member of the executive committee of the Economics Network (www.economicsnetwork.ac.uk), which provides training in economics pedagogy and facilitates education exchange for those who teach economics in higher education. For more than 10 years, I have been facilitating training workshops for university educators myself, and I held the position of training lead for the Network from 2018-2024.
I am a co-founder of the Centre for Teaching and Learning (www.ctale.org), which supports innovative teaching and learning initiatives. I have co-led the Centre till 2017 while working at University College London, and am now a member of its advisory panel.
I am part of the internationally renowned CORE project (www.core-econ.org), an introductory economics syllabus designed to revolutionise the teaching of economics by bringing recent, real-world developments and current economic research findings into the introductory economics classroom. As part of CORE from its inception, and as a member of its Teaching and Learning committee, I have designed numerous educational resources for instructors, including pedagogical guides, which are now used at over 495 universities, in over 70 countries, across five continents.
In my scholarship work I focus on pedagogy in economics teaching, the higher education sector, economics communication, environmental economics, and public policy. I work on the impact of AI on jobs for economists and its implication for teaching at higher education. I am also currently leading a large scale international study on teaching-track faculty in economics.
I share my experience internationally through journal publications and case studies, conference presentations and workshops.
I have been educated at Hamburg University (Germany), the University of St. Andrews (UK), University College London (UK) and the University of London - Birkbeck College (UK).
